Indications: Expected Effects in Cosmetic Medicine
- Fine Wrinkles around the eyes
- Nasolabial Grooves
- Stretch Marks
- Acne Scar
- Wrinkle on forehead
- Wrinkles on the neck
- Wrinkles on lips
It is effective particularly for crepy skin under the eyes (fine wrinkles) that are difficult to treat by conventional rejuvenation therapy. Inducing skin regeneration, the therapy is also effective in treating wrinkles, acne marks, sags, and wrinkles on the neck.
Allow Extraction of White Blood Cells not found in Conventional PRP
The interaction between PRP and white blood cells results in the release of growth factors that potentiate the natural healing power and tissue reorganization potential at injection sites and subsequent regeneration of the skin.
Substantial Reduction in the Time to Onset Efficacy
In conventional therapy, it takes about two months for any benefit to be seen, although the time varies among individuals. New-PRP Skin Regeneration Therapy produces noticeable symptomatic improvement in a short period of about 3 to 4 weeks.
Comparison with Conventional Procedures
The PRP enrichment rate is three to five times higher than that for conventional procedures, and the time to benefit is reduced to one-fourth.
Mechanism of latest and most advanced PRP Skin Regeneration Therapy
A variety of Growth Factors Released from PRP Rejuvenate the Skin from Inside
PRP Skin Regeneration Therapy uses components called platelets contained in the blood. Platelets play a role in stopping bleeding and repairing damaged blood vessels and cells in the body. Platelets contain substances called growth factors that activate and rejuvenate cells in the body. The growth factors, when released, induce the production of collagen and generation of new capillaries to rejuvenate the skin.
PDGF; (Platelet derived growth factor) Cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production
FGF; (Fibroblast growth factor) Tissue repair, cell growth, collagen production, hyaluronic acid production
VEGF; Growth and new generation of vascular endothelial cells
EGF; (Epithelial growth factor) Promotion of epithelial cell growth, angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing
TGF-β; Growth and neogenesis of epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells, promotion of wound healing
Precautions on How to choose PRP Therapy
Many clinics now use what they call “autologous platelets” to eliminate wrinkles and treat acne marks. All those clinics claim “skin regeneration therapy with autologous platelets.” However, the efficacy of therapy differs substantially.
The Concentration and component of platelets Make Difference
Important factors for greater efficacy include the concentration and component of platelets for injection. As described previously, skin regeneration with PRP is based on the mechanism that platelets release a variety of growth factors to promote tissue repair, angiogenesis, and collagen production for skin rejuvenation.
The efficacy is enhanced by improving the quality of platelets. At Leading Edge Cosmetic Laser Surgery we use a method of injecting platelet-rich plasma containing autologous white blood cells that is prepared by mixing enriched platelets (6 to 10 fold) collected from blood and an appropriate amount of white blood cells, which are rarely contained in common PRP. Our method is found to be highly effective in a range of symptoms.
For separation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a dedicated kit called Fibrinet AGF is used. The use of a specific filter and a centrifuge achieves a high platelet recovery rate of 97% or more and allows preparation of plasma containing six to ten times as many platelets as the common one.
Step 1. Collection of Blood
The blood is collected.
Step 2. Separation of Platelet Component
A specific filter and a centrifuge are used to prepare platelet-rich plasma (PRP) containing autologous white blood cells.
Step 3. Injection of Platelet Component
The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with autologous white blood cells is injected into the area of concern. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes from blood collection to injection.
Multiple small poke injections are made close together into the skin releasing the PRP in order to kick-start rejuvenation by GF stimulation that is derived from your platelets in the PRP. The neck and back of hands can also be done in one session. Procedure time for the face is about 1.5 hours. Alternatively, the PRP can be delivered after needle abrasion with a derma roller or skin needling.
Recovery is fast and expects results starting at 4 weeks. Optimal results are seen after 3 consecutive monthly sessions. Some persons show more swelling of the skin under the injections than other clients. It is impossible to identify who will show excessive swelling. Fortunately, the swelling subsides within a day in all and there is no sequel.
Invariable or no Response to the PRP Process Includes:
- Alcohol abuse
- Cigarette smoking
- Genetics and rapid natural chronological aging with line formation
- Advanced solar aging
- Advanced hyperpigmentation
- Deep vertical forehead lines & perioral lines
- Telangiectasis of the cheeks and nose associated with plethora
Pre-treatment patient preparation:
Patients are advised to start taking products that stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen such as vitamin C (1,000 mg daily and vitamin D (not more than recommended daily requirement) from 7- 14 days before the day of treatment.
Again a natural chemical, preservative-free DNA Skin Care Products like Super Natural vitamin A cream and Medi C cristal 7-14 days pre-treatment will also start to activate fibroblasts. Patients are advised to continue indefinitely with these topical products in any event.
Contraindication to the PRP Process
- Facial cancer, past and present. This includes SCC, BCC and melanoma
- Systemic cancer, chemotherapy, steroid therapy • Dermatological diseases affecting the face ( i.e. porphyria)
- Blood disorders and platelet abnormalities
- Certain herbal products
- Aspirin or anti-platelet agents
Safety of PRP facial Rejuvenation
It is safe treatment because autologous (your own) plasma is used. Expect mild redness, swelling, bruising and minor discomfort.
Are results immediate?
No. Swelling from the fluid is what you will see and feel first. Once the swelling has subsided you will not see much change at all. Over a few weeks the platelets will stimulate the growth factors which will assist in more collagen growth.
How many PRP treatments are required?
This will depend upon the health and age of your skin. Normally it is advised to have 2-3 treatments, 4- 6 weeks apart. However, We will determine your treatment protocol according to your skin condition.
How long do results last?
Treatment results vary, however, in most patients the results last up to 18 months. Touch-up treatments will maintain the results.
